The Interview

On 25 and 26 January 2019, we have make an interview with two pet shop and one veterinary clinic operating in Bintulu, which is Pets Avenue, J & J Pet Lovers and Alliance Veterinary Clinic.

The purpose of our interview is to find out more about the pet care market in Bintulu and get more information about the business we will run in the next three years ie pet-related businesses.

Type of business   : Partnership - Where one is in Kuching and one in Bintulu (Pets Avenue).

Hours                         : Monday - Friday (10 am - 7 pm)

                                  : Saturday (9 am - 6 pm)

                                  : Sunday (9 am - 5 pm)

Pets Avenue offers Boarding services for an average price of RM20 – 30 (one room), selling pet food with RM50/Kg for dog food and RM8/Kg for cats, grooming equipment and animal accessories.

J & J Pet Lovers offers Grooming services for cats and dogs at a price of RM30 - 40 while cutting for dogs according to size with an average price of RM75 and boarding at RM10 for dogs and RM12 for cats. In addition, they also sell animal accessories and their main products are animal feed and grooming equipment.

Alliance Veterinary Clinic began operating in 1992 in Bintulu.

Alliance Veterinary Clinic offers treatments for animals but mostly cats, dogs and rabbits. They also offer services like vaccines, surgery and animal feed and pet adoption services.

In conclusion, most customers in Bintulu are from the Malays, Chinese, and Iban. As a result of interviews with several traders in Bintulu, we are able to find out customer behavior when buying a product. Like the purchase of some kind of animal food, according to the owners of individual animals to choose and also according to the taste of the cat themselves to buy this animal feed because cats do not always change the type of food while the dog always exchange food. This is because there are some animal owners who want the best for their pets.

In addition, we also know the types of cats and dogs and know how to care for animals such as frequent animals subjected to vaccines for the prevention of animal diseases and avoiding animals from being exposed to the virus. In fact, we can also find out the statistics of pet shops operating in Malaysia where there are 50 more fruits including Sabah and Sarawak while in Bintulu there are less than 10 pet shops operating.
